Well, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to cash in on the drama and jealously of the ballet world. What makes better reality t.v. than a bunch of perfectionist super-athletes all competing for the same two roles in a production?

Looks like The CW is going to bring you all the Pas De Deux and Plies you could ask for with the premiere of ‘Breaking Pointe’ tonight at 8 PM. Focusing on the Salt Lake City ballet company, Ballet West, the show will follow both the personal and performance lives of it’s best and brightest. We can only hope for some ‘Black Swan’ style freak out to make it interesting.

Well, tonight gives us half an hour of relief from the constant reality t.v. viewing. Of course, it comes in the form of a cheesey, family-friendy sitcom…so you know, what is worse really?

If you’re looking for something to watch at 8 PM tonight, you’ve got two choices:

On ABC Family, the second season of ‘Melissa and Joey’ premieres tonight. Someone, somewhere thought it would be an amazing idea to pair Melissa Joan Hart and Joey ‘Whoa’ Lawrence up – we’re not sure why either. It’s pretty much ‘Who’s The Boss’ for a new generation with Joey playing the ‘manny’ to Melissa’s politician.

Over on CBS you can continue your reality t.v. streak if you would like, with the series premiere of ‘Dogs In The City’. New-Yorker Justin Silver is apparently the inner-city version of Cesar Millan complete with tattoos and all.

Yet another night of “reality” television for you tonight. Apparently the summer is going to be all about watching real people act like idiots on camera.

The CW will introduce the world to the young and hot staff of Miami’s The Catalina hotel in the aptly named new show ‘The Catalina’ at 8 PM. We know, you’ve all been waiting to see how the staff of a hotel can out party their guests, and now you can. How exciting.

If you’re looking for a reality show that is only slightly less useless, TLC is premiering the billionth season of ‘What Not To Wear’ at 9 PM. We do love a good makeover story, so this will probably be the show that gets our views tonight. At least Stacy and Clinton are helping make the world more beautiful. And if, you’re not satisfied with just one makeover story, ‘Big Brooklyn Style’ series premiere follows at 10 PM.

Now that our season finale hangovers are passing, it’s time to look ahead to what the summer has in store for us on the television. It’s a long wait for September, and there is nothing wrong with spending those humid, 40-degree nights in the glorious cool of air conditioning, giving some of the summer premieres a chance.

We know, summer television is usually the backwoods cousin of the regular season, but you never know what you could find. After all, ‘True Blood’, ‘Weeds’ and ‘Breaking Bad’ are all slated to start their new seasons.

As for tonight, the pickings are slim, unless of course you LOVE “reality” television. A&E seems to be the only station premiering shows tonight, and they aren’t exactly the SurlyGurls cup o’ tea.

At 9 PM ‘The Demon’ and his new bride return on ‘Gene Simmons Family Jewels’. Now, we’ll admit, we watch this one every so often, who doesn’t like watching a womanizing, braggart, Rock’n'Roll God get told off by just about everyone in his family? While this is probably more scripted than some of the fictional shows on T.V. there is something hilarious about watching rich kids get cut off from the family fortune and 50-something parents decide to adopt a new baby. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.

If the aging rock star and his playboy bride don’t fill your need for drama, fear not. Following Gene and Shannon at 10 PM are two back-to-back episodes of ‘Monster-In-Laws’. Nothing says entertainment than watching middle-class Americans fight and argue and beat on each other. Oh, wait, they bring an ‘expert’ in to help solve their problems, thank goodness, that makes it alright to profit from people’s problems.

This weekend welcomes only one brave little soilder to challenge ‘The Avengers‘ at the Box Office. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s eighth colaboration brings the updated 60s/70s gothy soap ‘Dark Shadows‘ to the big screen. Though the original was dark and dramatic, they’ve gone the ‘21 Jump Street‘ route and turned it into a campy comedy.

Though, I would be a liar if I told you I’m not looking forward to seeing something along the lines of a blood-sucking Captain Jack Sparrow in a severely manicured hair-do!

‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ smashed almost every Box Office record in its path over the weekend.

Joss Whedon’s ensemble comic book masterpiece pulled in $200.3M in three days! Easily breaking the opening weekend record. The final chapter in the Harry Potter series had held the record, after conjuring up a $169.2M opening last summer.

In addition to breaking the best opening weekend record, ‘The Avengers’ took the title of second-best opening day, behind ‘Deathly Hallows — Part 2’, after earning $80.5M on Friday.  Oh, don’t forget to add to the list that the adaptation broke the record for the biggest Saturday gross and experts predict it will break the record for the biggest Sunday gross as well.

But, you don’t have to be a Tony Stark-level genius to realize that the combination of Marvel Universe All-Stars, Joss Whedon, and incredible CGI effects would equal Box Office gold. Just look at the earnings for the first and second place movies – there is a difference of about $190 million dollars?! That’s crazy!! No one was seeing anything other than ‘The Avengers‘ this weekend!

This is a great start to the Summer Movie Season… and judging from the previews running before ‘The Avengers’ we are going to be spending a lot of time in the theatres this summer.
